Samsung have differentiated its smartphones that have a curved display into a specific Edge series, while keeping the standard flat screens as a product on its own. That may be about to change with the Samsung Galaxy S8.
The design of the Galaxy Note 7 muddied the waters by featuring a curved edge on the screen but not carrying the Edge branding. That raises the question as to what will happen to the Galaxy Edge devices?
According to a new report from The Korea Herald, both Galaxy S8 models might feature curved screens, at the same 5.1- and 5.5-inch sizes as the GS7.
Sources said the company has already started securing display panels in two sizes — 5.1-inch and 5.5-inch — from its own display-making unit Samsung Display.
The release of a curved screen Galaxy S8 could mean that there will be no S8 Edge model.
The design of the Note 7 is extremely nice and despite the more subtle curves of the screen, it seems Samsung may be gearing towards this design for its future smartphones.
